The State of Girls: Emerging Trends and Troubling Truths
Stacie Simpson, Stacie Simpson Consulting
Girls in the United States are growing up during a period of rapid demographic, social, economic, and technological change. The United States is becoming more racially and ethnically diverse. Family dynamics are becoming more complex. Gender roles are continuing to shift as more women enter college and the workforce.

Thanks to the Girl Scout Research Institute, The State of Girls is the first research report to focus on the health and well-being of the 26 million girls living in the United States. The third edition, released in 2017, focuses on national and state-level trends across key indicators: economic, physical and emotional health, education, and extracurricular/out-of-school activities.

In this session, we’ll review the report findings and discuss together how this research influences us, our camp, and our campers. Together, we’ll brainstorm and discuss what we can do to prepare the next generation of women to take the lead.
