"CrazyBusy: Overstretched, Overbooked, and About to Snap!" The opening line in my journal today? No! It's this week's #WWRW! (What we're reading Wednesday)

Three weeks ago, I attended the American Camp Association National Conference with my husband. It was our honeymoon. Oh, that doesn’t sound romantic to you? It was perfect for us, don’t you worry! I developed quite the reading list throughout the conference, but I was a little bit spoiled because my man got me surprise gift from the ACA Bookstore right there at the conference: CrazyBusy: Overstretched, Overbooked, and About to Snap! Many of us can relate to the title alone, and I’ve definitely been connecting with what I’ve ready so far.

I’m still in Part One which is “Overbooked and About to Snap.” It’s all the philosophy of why we’re so busy in the modern age and everything that’s constantly vying for our attention – of course, all accelerated by our use of technology. Part Two (still coming up for me) is “Creating a System that Works for You” and should include more practical application.

The whole concept is getting me super-jazzed for my Education Session coming up at the Mid States Camp Conference (Who’s gonna be there?! I can’t wait to see you!): “Hustle: The Art of Working Smarter and Accomplishing More.” One of the most important things that we’ll talk about is the mind-blowing concept that hustle does not equal "being busy".

Hustle is not the same as being busy. Hustle is very specific: it keeps you focused on the most important and impactful tasks, and keeps you driven toward excelling in your mission. Busy is… well, busy is a hot mess, usually. Being busy just means doing stuff.

And often times, we’re just doing stuff without even noticing what is that we’re doing or reflecting on the impact of the tasks that have been completed. It’s that feeling at 5:30 when you’re exhausted, taking a deep breath, shutting down your office computer and thinking to yourself “Wait. What did I even DO today?” And then, you check your to-do list to see what you checked off, and it’s only longer than it was when you arrived that morning.

Yeah…we all know that feeling…

I haven’t figured it out completely. But I’ve certainly improved my focus and productivity over the last few years that I’ve been more aware.
